Collegiate Chapters
An MTNA collegiate chapter is the future music teachers connection with the larger community of committed music professionals - a community committed to inspiring and developing the utmost professionalism in all its members. MTNA collegiate chapters provide a way to fill gaps and to provide the information and experience necessary to complete an education as both a knowledgeable, inspiring music teacher and a successful entrepreneur.
Mission Statement
MTNA collegiate chapters provide educational, musical, social and professional experiences that augment the student's formal course of study, acquaint students with professional opportunities and career options in the field of music, and develop professional leadership skills. Collegiate chapters also provide an important opportunity for MTNA college faculty members to increase their participation in MTNA activities by becoming a collegiate chapter

How to Start a Collegiate Chapter on Your Campus
- Select a faculty member to act as advisor to your group.
- Keep in mind each institution has different requirements for the establishment of student organizations. Consult your advisor and your institution's student activities office to ensure all guidelines (i.e. financial, tax and collegiate affiliation) are met as you form your collegiate chapter.
- Obtain a copy of the sample of the approved FSMTA bylaws from Collegiate Chapters from Collegiate Chapter Chairman.
- Arrange to have a organizing meeting and record minutes. Appoint at least 3 officers. Provide a list of current MTNA members who will join. Arrange for individuals who are not members to join through FSMTA Membership Chairman.
- Please note: each chapter must have at least three student members, as well as a sponsor or advisor who is an active member of the state and national associations. Students must be enrolled in a college or university to become a member of a collegiate chapter.
- Each prospective collegiate chapter must submit an online Collegiate Chapter Application to MTNA. Upon approval by the state association and national office, your collegiate chapter will receive notification and a certificate from MTNA.
