Junior Student Composition: Winner
Gabrielle Chou is 13 years old and in the 8th grade at  Silver Trail Middle School. She has studied piano with Maria Gomez since she was 5 years old. She has been the recipient of numerous awards in piano, violin and composition, including many 1st place award at both FFMC State and Pompano piano competitions. She was the 1st place winner in the BCMTA Intermediate Q and B Competitions. Gabrielle has also been a piano soloist with the Coral Gables Chamber Symphony, and has been televised several times in performances of the "American Ideal" program. In 2005 she was invited to perform in a master class for Lang-Lang at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. In August 2006 and 2008, Gabrielle participated in the Ettlingen International Competition for Yong Pianists; in 2006 she was awarded an honorable mention.

In May 2007, Gabrielle won the Irene Muir Award in the Piano Concerto event at the FFMC State Competition. In May 2008, she won 1st place in the Senior concerto event at the FFMC State Competition. In February 2008, she won second place in the Advanced I division of the Pompano Piano Competition, and received the Steinway Young Artist Award. In fall 2007, she was invited to perform in a master class for Murray Perahia, and won second place in the MTNA Florida State Piano Competition, Junior Division.

In September 2008, Gabrielle was one of the final eight competitions in the 12th International Taipei Chopin Piano Competition, Youth Section. As a finalist, she performed with the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra in the famous Taipei National Concert Hall.

For the past 5 years, Gabrielle has been the youngest member of the Senior Division of the Florida Youth Orchestra, and is currently the concertmaster.

In addition to her piano studies, Gabrielle studies violin with Carol Cole, and composition with Donald Waxman. She enjoys drawing and writing.
