Young Artist Student Composition: Honorable Mention
Andrew Boss is a 20 year old sophomore at Florida Southern College, where he studies piano with Robert MacDonald and composition with Rita Fandrich. A native of Ft. Lauderdale, he began piano instruction at the age of eight with Mary Beth Purchase. In his high school years he studied composition with Donald Waxman, with whom he continues to study privately. In 2006 he won first honorable mention in the FSMTA Composition Competition, Senior Division, with his first serious piano composition Homage to Rachmaninoff, and won 2nd place in the NFMC Senior Division Composition Competition with the same work. In the recent NFMC Young Artist’s Composition Competition, Andrew won 3rd place on the national level with the same work with which he has been honored by FSMTA, Child’s Play. This past year his jazz composition The Impression was premiered by the jazz ensemble at Florida Southern College.

Andrew is a frequent performer, often of his own compositions, in recital, at church, and at retirement homes. He is an avid skier and waverunner.
