Young Artist String State
Representative
Haruka Kobayashi was the 2010 winner of the
Florida-American String Teachers Association Solo Competition and was a
finalist in the Ocala Symphony Orchestra’s
Concerto Competition. She has recently been selected to represent
Florida's MTNA Young Artist String Competition to compete in the MTNA
Southeast Regional Competition. A native of Japan, Haruka performed four
Vivaldi concerti with the Kyoto Symphony Orchestra in 2001, and won the
Distinguished Performer Award at the 15th Annual Japan Classical
Music Competition. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Kyoto
City University of Arts, where she studied with Midori Kugota, and is
currently enrolled in the University of North Florida’s
Performer’s
Certificate program as a student of Dr. Simon Shiao. In 2008, she
attended the summer master class at the Hochschule fur Musik und Theater
"Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" Leipzig on a scholarship. In the spring of
2011, she toured and performed with world renowned clarinetist Richard
Stoltzman. Also in 2011, she was concertmistress at The Texas Music
Festival in Houston. In Jacksonville, Haruka has performed Vivaldi’s
Winter Concerto on the Riverbank Fine Arts Series, and has played in
master classes given by Ying Quartet, Brooklyn Rider, Quartetto Gelato
and the Claremont Trio. Her former teachers include Yuko Iwatani
