Senior String Winner
A tenth-grader at
the Bolles School (Jacksonville, FL), Likai He (b. Dec. 30, 1994)
is the Senior String Winner for the 2010 Florida MTNA Competition. He is
also the winner of the 2010 Florida ASTA (American String Teachers
Association) Solo Competition. Gifted in violin, at the age of three
Likai began to study violin with his father Jianjun He, a composer and
violinist who is Associate Professor of Composition and Theory at
Jacksonville University. Likai was the Grand Prize Winner of the 2006
Wyoming ASTA Young Artists’ Competition, a recipient of Maestro Award of
2007 Colorado Springs Music Festival, and 2008 Lucy Rognstad Award
conferred by the Casper Chamber Music Society. In 2009, as the winner of
the Wyoming ASTA Solo Competition he performed Mendelssohn’s violin
concerto with Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra, and was also invited to
perform at the Wyoming Arts Council. The repertoire of his recent
recitals include Bach’s Sonatas and Partitas, Paganini’s Caprices, as
well as masterworks by Mozart, Bruch, Sarasate, and Wieniawski.
Currently, Likai is a student of Sergiu Schwartz, Professor of Violin at
the Schwob School of Music, Columbus State University (GA).
